Dr. Hiroaki Minamide

Dr. Hiroaki Minamide is currently a Team Leader of Teraphotonics team and a Group Director of Terahertz research group of RIKEN, Japan. He is also a visiting professor at Chiba University. He joined RIKEN in 1999, and after working as a researcher and deputy team leader, he has been working as the team leader since 2010 and as the group director since 2020. He received the B.S. degree in communication engineering, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electronic engineering from Tohoku University, Japan, in 1993, 1996, and 1999, respectively. His research interests include high-power THz-wave generation and extremely sensitive THz-wave detection using nonlinear optics and their unique THz applications.

He is a member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Optica (formerly OSA), The Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE), The Optical Society of Japan (OSJ), The Japan Society of Applied Physics (JSAP), and The Laser Society of Japan as a senior membership.
